Day 3 - Santa Cruz and Felton Steam Train
Day 3 - The group elected to wake at 6am to get to Santa Cruz board walk when it opened. We of courses woke at 6:30am and left 1/2 hour late. The unscheduled stops (pee breaks) put a damper on the "getting there when it opened" idea. We did arrive at Santa Cruz boardwalk and had plenty of time to enjoy a few rides. After the boardwalk we had a short 20 minute drive to the Roaring Camp steam train for our giant redwoods adventure. We were impressed that they had a sign out with our name and a reserved car just for Camp High Places (woo hoo!). The steam train took us through some 2000 year old caostal redwoods and stopped at an incredible grove. We really enjoyed the conductor, he knew a lot about this rare train we were on and his grandfather had been a conductor on a real railroad (he had his conductor pin on his hat!). After the redwood experience it was off to our Half Moon Bay camp ground. We were very proud at how quickly camp came together with everyone's help. See you tomorrow!

Hi Sophie,
We are having a blast! The group is getting along so well. And my gosh the broke down and set up camp at super speed. We are having a great trip thanks for having such great kids!
Trevor
What? You guys couldn't get up on time? Daylight is burning, you missed some fun. There is plenty of time to sleep during school. Your new camp credo should be "When one camper pees, every camper pees". Less time wasted. What do you think?

This is from Amy Doyle's father Dan Traxler. Amy's mother and I drove to Morro Bay the first day to reserve the campsite for the first days. Amy arrived with three campers and we set up the camp. The balance of the campers arrived in the other two vehicles later that day. It was very cold in Morro Bay and I for one was not dressed for the cold. We left that night so that the compers and the staff could bond with each other. Also, they did not need some old couple in the camp. HA
Julie, Amy's mother and I are from Huntington Beach Calif. I do not know if any of the campers parents know this but Amy and Trevor are expecting their first baby, our grandchild, in Jan 2007. We are very proud of Trevor and Amy and we want you parents to know that you can trust your children with this couple and the other counselors that are along on the trip. Oh, by the way they have my pickup truck with them on this trip. It is the blue one in one of the pictures with the camper shell.
